The town with a population of 120 inhabitants is located on a hillside crowned by its cemetery, surrounded by extensive grasslands, with a leafy pine forest that gives color to the front of the valley.

The municipality is known for hosting the Valdelinares ski resort, which is located just 2.7 km from the urban center thanks to the new access to elevation 1700 and, for housing a small mass of black or Moorish pine (Pinus uncinata), a true botanical curiosity as it is the southernmost area of Europe where it can be found. The pine forests are so characteristic of the municipality's surroundings that they determine the origin of its name and its shield formed by five green pine trees in reference to its Latin name: 'Val de Lignare' which means: 'Valley between pine forests'.
